IDS 160 - Wood as a Resource: Boat Building3 Credits
Students study wood use as a resource/building material that was/is foundational to human history and to modern sustainability concerns This course provides students with a regional experience of a localized forest products economy, an experience in timber falling-milling-lumber production, an overview of the diversity of species-properties and uses of wood, a hands on experience of building a wooden boat, and an experience paddling the craft on our local waters. The course is offsite at a boat building shop in Washburn (transportation is provided). Course Fee.
