*This major is pending final approval from Northland College’s accreditor, expected late April 2024.
The pre-law major prepares students for law school after graduation at Northland, by developing the skills and cultural knowledge necessary to succeed in law school and to be a productive and conscientious attorney.
This major is required for students who wish to enroll in the 3-2 partnership with the Vermont Law School.
The Pre-Law major teaches students how to see and understand the functioning of law in society as a result of dynamic interactions between culture, economics, politics, the environment, ideas, ideologies, and social trends. Students in this major learn how to read critically, write clearly and authoritatively, and think comprehensively about the course of human events.
Although the Pre-Law Major is designed for preparation for law school, it offers students many crucial skills for the broader job market, and prepares students for the pursuit of careers in journalism, writing, diplomacy, law, technical writing, ministry, public relations, public administration, and non-profit work as well as graduate studies in history, law, or international relations.
