NRS 365 - Conservation of Large Carnivores3 Credits
This interdisciplinary course focuses on the conservation and ecology of large carnivores. Students learn about large carnivore conservation around the world by examining various case-studies of current conservation initiatives and studying the natural histories of the world’s large carnivores. Case-studies focus on particular carnivore species and the scientists, conservationists, and local people who strive to balance human livelihoods and carnivore conservation. Topics include: population ecology, human-wildlife conflict, conservation genetics, reintroduction, metapopulations, sociopolitical conflict over carnivore conservation, trophic cascades, conservation planning, poaching, and habitat conservation. Prerequisites: BIO 234
