Students are introduced to the historical changes, theoretical conceptions, and contemporary opportunities and challenges of local economies, with a focus on rural areas in the U.S. and in other parts of the world. Through readings, lectures, and analysis, students explore how social, economic, and environmental forces shape quality of life in small communities.
